Welcome to ‘Vom Ulmer Haus' Pugs
How is it possible that you see a picture of a Pug in a dog book and think: Well ....... I don’t know… A few months later you’ll go to visit breeders who own seven adult Pugs and then you know for sure; this is my breed. That's already 27 years ago, in 1983 to be exact. It took some time before I owned my first Pug, it wasn’t easy to purchase a good dog those days, especially a Pug that would be suitable for shows and breeding. Gerrit Vrieze and myself started building the ‘vom Ulmer Haus’ kennel together. Gerrit had previously been breeding Great Danes ( Great Danes originate from the region of " The Ulmer ’’, hence the name Vom Ulmer Haus) and wanted a somewhat smaller dog. The "vom Ulmer Haus" kennel was registered on March 5th, 1973 by the Dutch Kennel Club (Raad van Beheer). The Pug breeding started in 1985.
The first Pugs came, as a gift, shortly before Christmas 1984. A black female for Gerrit: "Ch. Juwel van Bave-Loo", (she became the founding bitch of our kennel) and a beige male, "Bart van Bave-Loo" for me. Later on, we of course wanted to have descendants, so we went looking for a suitable male for Juwel. This was not easy, but eventually we found a beautiful little male from England, imported by the late Mr. and Mrs. Balemans (of Wallyda's Home); Ch. Pallyn Pigchampagne. This combination turned out to be great and our Ch. Gerald vom Ulmer Haus was soon a favorite of many judges. We had got the taste of it and we continued (next to our very busy job at the animal shelter), exhibiting and responsible breeding of this enchanting breed.
From the early 1993’s until 1996 we have not been breeding, due to illness. In 1997 I have made a restart and at the end of 1997 my Pug female Ch. Bregje vom Ulmer Haus won Youthwinner & Winner title and BOB at the Amsterdam Winnershow. For many other ‘’Vom Ulmer Haus’’ Pugs I refer you to the males and females ABC on this website. I have also created pages for the Pugs that have been important for my breeding or still are. Definitely worth to take a look is the page ‘’happy owners’’, because this is where it is all about.
I live a happy life with my dogs and I wish you much fun in my ‘Pugworld’
